MM> Are you classified Legally Blind? If so there are a number of MM> agencies that might be able to help. The big one is The MM> American Federation for the Blind (AFB). Their website is MM> AFB.org. In lieu of that, what about friends, family, MM> Uber/Lyft, buses, ride shares, cabs, etc. Also, check with MM> your local/state government for possible services. Also, check MM> with local churches; the larger ones may offer some kind of MM> door-to-door service. I *WAS* legally blind before cataract surgery...as my visual acuity was 20/2000 for much of my life, having severe nearsightedness. After the surgery, vision was restored to 20/20, with a little bit of astigmatism. The problem now is "dry eye syndrome" or dry corneas. They cause my vision to blur without warning, and I realized it became too dangerous to drive or have a car. I keep a supply of Systane Eye drops with me all the time. My visual acuity last May was 20/15 in the left eye, and 20/20 in the right eye...and the eye pressures were 9 in the left eye, and 10 in the right eye...they have never been that good. I have no immediate family members left. My Dad and wife died 3 months apart nearly 19 years ago...my Mom died 6 1/2 years ago, and my younger brother committed suicide 1 1/2 years ago. My late wife and I didn't have any kids, due to medical issues, so I'm the last of my line. What relatives are left are out of state, older than me, in worse health than I am, and they can't travel. I was originally with Uber, but they frauded my bank card, and I nearly couldn't get home from the hospital. I've been with Lyft for nearly 4 years now, and have what they call "Lyft Pink", and "Lyft Senior". With Lyft Pink, I pay $10 extra a month, but I get a 5% break on rides, priority pickup (shorter wait times)...and if they send a pickup truck where the step is higher than my groin (and I can't get in as a result), they will pay 3 of the $5 cancellation fees per month...and if I book a new ride within 10 minutes, I'll get $5 off that. My HMO does offer 12 medical round trips per year to doctor's offices/clincs, etc at no charge, as long as the trip is under 50 miles. So that's a great help. Daryl ... And there were plagues of locusts, and frogs, and MS-DOS, and MS Windows. === MultiMail/Win v0.52 --- SBBSecho 3.32-Win32 * Origin: The Thunderbolt BBS - Little Rock, Arkansas (618:250/33) |
