Space Weather News for Aug. 5, 2026

SUNSET SOLAR ECLIPSE:  Next week, Europeans will see one of the strangest and
most beautiful solar eclipses in decades. It's a sunset eclipse, peaking just as
the solar disk sinks behind the Iberian countryside. It's the first total
eclipse for western Europe since 1999.  North Americans will get an eclipse,
too, although it is only partial.  Alaskans will see as much as 57% of their
morning sun covered.  

The main event is in Spain, where the eclipse happens at sunset. Hanging less
than 10 degrees above the horizon, the eclipsed sun will be beautifully framed
by mountains, trees and urban skylines.
